Steve Levinson

Steve Levinson has had, to date, thirteen solo exhibitions. His 2012 show, “Outer Beauty,” was a major 65-piece exhibit at the ARTA Gallery in Toronto’s prestigious Distillery District.

Steve won awards in his first two photographic competitions. He then put his camera aside to follow other artistic pursuits. In 2001, Steve returned to the art of photography, and his images have since been on view at the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Gallery at First Canadian Place, Painted City Gallery, the Art Gallery of Northumberland at Victoria Hall, ARTA Gallery, Joshua Creek Heritage Art Centre, Roche Bobois, and the Engine, Left Bank, A.K. Collings, Northumberland Art and Levinson Galleries in Port Hope, Ontario. His work is represented in over 300 private and corporate collections and has been selected by a number of prominent designers, including Brian Gluckstein and Greta Valen.

Steve is a former professional jazz dancer, choreographer, musician, writer, actor, magician and riding instructor. For years, he was a fixture on Canadian television and radio locally and nationally as an on-air host and commentator. He was also a newspaper columnist, wrote and hosted educational videos and taught wine appreciation. He currently practices as a physician and psychotherapist in Port Hope.

Steve’s photographs are candid and most are just as they were captured. Aside from adjusting natural colour saturation, there are few if any other digital alterations. His photographs have been called “atmospheric, romantic, and abstract.”

“Levinson has used his camera as cameras often want to be used: as creators of dreamscapes, as traps for fugitive weathers and atmospheres we can hardly see, but only sense.”
