Josie Korimsek

Artist Bio

Josie was born in France, raised in Slovenia and Germany and came to Canada in 1954 where she met her husband John. They moved to Cobourg in 1955 where she worked and raise her two daughters. Inquisitive by nature, her varied interests in food, textiles and gardening have allowed her to express her creativity throughout the years.

In 2003, Josie discovered painting, working with oils on canvas under the guidance of Joanne Purdy in Grafton. Josie’s painting subjects includes small and large flowers, portraits, seascapes and landscapes. She has an eye for detail, and captures the whimsical as seen in her hanging laundry and jellybean house paintings. Painting is her therapy – she loves it because it brings her peace and satisfaction. Josie is a member of the Art Gallery of Northumberland, the Arts council of Northumberland and most recently joined the Spirit of the Hills Art Association. Over the past three years, Josie’s paintings were selected for the Juried Exhibition at the Art Gallery of Northumberland, and two of her paintings were selected for the Juried Exhibition of the Arts Quinte West The Gallery in Trenton in November of 2012. Since 2006, she has exhibited her work at the Lions Art Show and Sales at the Cobourg Waterfront Festival. She is still striving to learn through various workshops.
