Betsy Miller
In my art, I explore the dynamic interplay of vivid, contrasting colors and texture using palette knife, drip, and scraped techniques with acrylics on canvas. The deliberate combination of bold hues creates a vibrant and energetic atmosphere, while the textured surfaces enhance the tactile experience, inviting viewers to engage both visually and physically with the composition. The absence of explicit references allows for a spontaneous and intuitive creative process, resulting in artworks that celebrate the expressive potential of unrestrained color and texture.
I do not plan my pieces in advance as I let my mood and instincts direct my colour palette and composition. I have been known to add marks and strokes to pieces as I enjoy the playful side to art. My technique and style continue to evolve in exciting new directions.
Inspiration comes from many expressionist artists, such as Hans Hoffman, Joan Mitchell, Helen Frankenthaler, Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner to name a few.
My work has been accepted into many juried gallery shows, and I donate to worthy charities regularly. My solo shows and group shows have been held mostly in small venues locally.I have also been accepted and participated in the Artist Project in Toronto for several years.
My paintings are held in private collections in Canada, London UK., Amsterdam, Milan, Detroit, Boston, New York and Atlanta.
I work from my home studio where art can be viewed and purchased.
