Brighton Arts Council at Gallery In the Garden August 23
Member Submitted:
Hi there, I am a relatively new member of Spirit of the Hills. My home studio is called Medlicott House Artist Studio + Gallery. As a continuation of a long standing tradition to support local artists/artisans I will be hosting an artist/artisan event on my property which is located at 321 6th Line West Campbellford (if this address sounds familiar it may be because you visited the property when Michael Proux and David Johnson lived here; they sold this property to yours truly in 2006). This year’s Medlicott Celebration of the Arts event is called Gallery In the Garden and will showcase 28 of the member artists/artisans of Brighton Arts Council. The event will be held on August 23 from 10am until 4pm. The event is open to the public with free admission; during a portion of the day there will be vocal entertainment provided by Rett Wills.

Members Exhibit at QSQinc Gallery
QSQinc Gallery at 246 Queen Street East Toronto has invited a group from The Northumberland Hills Arts Association Inc to show and sell giclees of their original art.
During April, Mary McEwan, Stephen Snider, Joanne Carlen, Ron Waddling and J. Log McQuaig will have selected pieces from their past work reproduced by QSQ in optional sizes on canvas, stretched and mounted for framing or direct wall hanging.
The company sees this as a great opportunity for collectors, decorators and new home/condo owners to obtain giclees of the originals. The price for a giclee, which duplicates the original on canvas, becomes very approachable in comparison to the original work value and yet provides the realism intended by the artists. These giclees are created on order at QSQinc and not mass produced off shore. The original artists will be signing the giclee on request. These artists have received valued recognition in past juried shows and galleries and sold domestically as well as internationally.
So often, after completing a work of art, the decision to part with the original takes on a complexity. Even if the intention is to sell the original, a part of you wants to hold on to your emotional journey. With the advancement of giclee, the justification to do both has presented itself as a great opportunity. ~ Ron Waddling, Artist remarks.
Visit QSQ during the times listed for viewings of the giclees available. We hope you will be able to visit the show personally and refer others.

On April 15th Stephen Snider, Mary McEwan, Joanne Carlen and Ron Waddling attended the opening of a Giclee Boutique show and sale at QSQinc. 246 Queen Street East. The well received show introduced many Torontonians and visitors to the sampling of our members work. The details of the show appear on this web site and have been promoted by Bravo internet, posters and direct mailings.
Northumberland CFDC Arts Initiative
On March 10 2008, Mary McEwan and Paul Portelli and Spirit Board members met with Brad Whelan, Regional Project Coordinator of the Eastern Ontario Community Futures Development Corporation. Their discussion focused on the financial support that Northumberland Community Futures Development Corporation has availalbe for local artists and artisans within the Northumberland County area.
The mandate of the Northumberland CFDC is threefold: to provide access to capital, business counselling and mentoring and community economic development. Their approach to building socio-economic capacity within our communities finds strength in social, environmental, cultural and economic strategies with partnerships and alliances across all sectors.
Additionally, the Northumberland CFDC would like to spearhead our promotion of the Arts within Northumberland County by creating a committee that would have two representatives from Spirit of the Hills, Northumberland Arts Council and Brighton Arts Council, who will form an advisory committee. This committee will be focused on identifying needs of various arts sectors and creating ideas focused on promoting the Arts within Northumberland County as a whole. If you are interested in being a part of our committee, please contact Paul Portelli.
