Mary Kahn - Painting

Peony by Mary Kahn
Having a serious aversion to being thought of as a “retired woman who paints”, Mary now sees with 20-20 hindsight that she was destined to be just that. After decades as a film and television producer, helping others to achieve their vision, she has some of her own visions to achieve. The benefit of working with directors, art directors, production designers, cinematographers and stills photographers all those years was invaluable in developing an instinct to see everything around her with an eye for light, composition, and the telling detail.
Mary has studied at the Toronto School of Art, the Gallery School at the AGO, and will continue to study art history and painting techniques for the rest of her life. Her work has hung in juried exhibitions at the Art Gallery of Northumberland (2006, 2007, 2008), the Spirit Of The Hills in Warkworth (2007, 2008), and in group exhibitions at the Visual Arts Centre of Clarington (2006, 2007) and the John M. Parrott Gallery in Belleville (2007). She also currently exhibits at the Journey Through The Arts Gallery in Port Hope, and has work in private collections in Canada, US, UK and China.
Mary lives very happily in Port Hope, where rush hour is when the five school buses go past her house at 3:20 every day.
